The American state of Arizona carried out the first death penalty since 2022. This was announced on Wednesday, March 19, according to the Fox News channel.
The execution was carried out around 20:00 Moscow time by lethal injection. Aaron Ganches, 53, was convicted of murdering his girlfriend's ex-husband in 2002. Ganches decided to give up the last word, the execution itself passed without incident.
"The process went according to plan, without any incidents," John Barcello, deputy director of the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation and Reintegration (ADCRR), said at a press conference after the execution.
Earlier, on March 8, the death penalty was executed by firing squad in the United States for the first time in 15 years. The convict chose this method of taking his own life. He was sentenced to death for a double murder in 2002. The dead were relatives of his ex-girlfriend, whom he also tried to kidnap.
