Veneers are one of the most popular aesthetic procedures in dentistry. However, there are many myths that frighten patients and make them doubt the need to install them. Anastasia Lapina, a dentist and owner of the LA DENTAL Soul clinic, told Izvestia about this on March 20.

Many people believe that installing veneers is expensive. However, modern dentistry offers different types at different prices, Lapina noted. The second myth is related to the fear of teeth grinding. The expert stressed that micro-preparation is currently being performed, in which the tooth itself does not wear off much.

"In addition to aesthetics, veneers are also used in total orthopedic rehabilitation. With age, if the bite is incorrect or the lower jaw is positioned, the front teeth can wear off and become short. To lengthen the crown part of the tooth, we use orthopedic veneers. This is the most gentle and studied technique that allows dentists to achieve high aesthetic and functional results," Lapina added.

Also, some people believe that installing veneers is supposedly an "unexplored technique", although this is absolutely not the case. The methodology has been thoroughly studied, the expert emphasized. All modern materials and fixation protocols make it possible to reliably isolate the tooth surface from saliva and gum fluid. This means that with proper installation, the possibility of carious damage to the tooth under the veneer is eliminated, she explained.

In addition, there is a myth that the pads look artificial. According to the doctor, modern ceramic veneers repeat the structure of a natural tooth as accurately as possible, have a natural transparency and can be customized to an individual shade of enamel.

In addition, patients are afraid that the pads will spoil their teeth and break quickly.

"Well-installed veneers not only do not harm teeth, but also protect them from external influences. They prevent enamel from erasing, protect against caries and hide defects. Modern materials such as durable ceramics or composite materials can withstand enormous loads. If veneers are professionally made and installed correctly, they last 10-15 years or more," the expert noted.

The doctor also noted that veneers are easy to care for — it is enough to follow standard hygiene: brush your teeth twice a day, use dental floss and visit the dentist regularly. Only abrasive pastes and overly hard brushes should be avoided. In addition, you can eat the same foods with veneers as before installation, but it is recommended to avoid biting hard objects.

On March 6, orthodontist Andrey Zhuk told Izvestia about the connection between malocclusion and early aging. According to him, if there is a violation of the even closure of the teeth, the chin, second chin, nasolabial folds and wrinkles can appear much earlier.
