Military topographers of the "West" group showed their work on a professional holiday
Military topographers of the all-arms army of the "West" group of troops continue to successfully carry out combat tasks in the zone of the special military operation (SMO). This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on February 8, the day of the military topographer.
"One of the most important tasks is the training of assault units in the terrain orientation program. Each serviceman must study the map to know the terrain to every crease, "to every bump" for safe movement and guaranteed fulfillment of combat tasks, as well as target designation of enemy targets," the ministry said.
It is noted that military topographers are also involved in the performance of tasks directly on the battlefield. With the help of modern measuring devices and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) they conduct reconnaissance of the area and indicate the exact places for striking the enemy. The information gathered by the efforts of military topographers is used in planning ground operations of the "West" group of troops.
"Without a map, it is impossible to plan further combat operations. If a commander or chief of staff does not have a map, he will not be able to plan combat operations. So do the tankers, artillerymen," said the head of the topographic service of the all-military army of the grouping of troops "West" with the call sign Orion.
"The main tasks of the topographic unit, as well as topographic service - timely provision of topogeodetic data to troops, command posts and departments of units, <...> thanks to which further offensive and defense actions are planned and executed," said the deputy chief of the topographic service of the same grouping of troops with the call sign "Pushkin."
Military topographers are among the first to appear in the most dangerous and impassable areas of the North Caucasus Military District. It is they who conduct primary topographic reconnaissance and also deliver maps of the terrain to soldiers on the front line.
Earlier, on February 5, servicemen of the "North" group of troops showed footage of 120-mmand 82-mm mortars workingon the front line.
The mortars are fired from different distances and in different conditions depending on the combat task. For the 82-mm mortar, the preferred targets are enemy infantry, light vehicles and firing points in relative proximity. At the same time, the 120-mm can hit drone launching points and fortified firing positions at a considerable distance from itself.
On the same day, the Defense Ministry showed footage of an assault on an AFU stronghold in the Krasnoarmeysk direction. After destroying the defense firing points, the Russian Armed Forces attack aircraft in pairs entered the forest belt where the AFU stronghold was located.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putinannounced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
