- Rospotrebnadzor is asked to check the substitution of saira for sardine in canned fish products

Rospotrebnadzor is asked to check the substitution of saury for sardine in canned fish produced in Russia. This appeal to the head of the service, Anna Popova, was sent by Sergei Lisovsky, a member of the State Duma from the United Russia faction.
In the document, which "Izvestia" has, he says that he received an appeal from the public organization for the protection of consumer rights "Public Consumer Initiative", which points out violations in the production and sale in a number of subjects of the Russian Federation canned fish "Sayra Primorskaya", produced by LLC "Russian Fish World". This company is one of the largest canned fish producers in Russia.
It also states that this product has signs of falsification, as the name does not coincide with the type of fish from which the canned food is actually made.
In addition, the document indicates that the manufacturer LLC "Russian Fish World" was previously issued warnings by the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance on other canned food "Saira Kurilskaya".
"The decision of the Novosibirsk Arbitration Court of May 21 last year established that in the product name of canned fish products "Sayra Kurilskaya" two zoological names of the species of aquatic biological resources "Sayra" and "Sardina" are used, at the same time in fact in the composition of the product one species of aquatic biological resource "Sardina" is indicated," Lisovsky reports and asks to conduct an inspection, and in case of violations to take measures in accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation.
"OPI within the framework of public control was revealed large-scale practice of production and sale of adulterated food products - canned fish made from Pacific sardine (Ivashi) and sold as an imitation of saira, under the invented name "SAIRA PRIMORSKAYA". The manufacturer is LLC "Russian Fish World". According to the results of the organized laboratory research, there was no saira in these canned products, only Ivashi DNA was detected," Oleg Pavlov explained the need for inspection to Izvestia.
According to him, judicial practice shows that under such circumstances labeling is considered inaccurate, misleading regarding the consumer properties of goods.
"Products containing only sardine in their composition cannot reproduce organoleptic indicators of saira and act as its imitation. Such products are subject to withdrawal from circulation as not meeting the requirements of technical regulations and potentially dangerous," Pavlov emphasized.
According to him, it is typical that over the past three years the activities of LLC "Russian Fish World" at least 15 times became the object of critical attention of territorial bodies of Rospotrebnadzor and Rosselkhoznadzor.
Earlier, on February 12, Russia began to experiment with the labeling of canned food. It included a wide list of everyday goods, the participation of businessmen on a voluntary basis.
