- Patrushev pointed to London's plan to create a colony in Ukraine with a "century-old agreement"

Russian presidential aide and chairman of the Russian Maritime Board Nikolay Patrushev said on Tuesday, January 28, that the United Kingdom was trying to create a new colony in Ukraine by signing the agreement on a "100-year partnership" between London and Kiev.
According to him, the agreement is an attempt to legitimize the military presence of British troops in Ukraine, as well as to increase London's naval influence in the Black and Baltic Seas, while ignoring international law.
"In fact, with this document, Foggy Albion is trying to cover up its unprincipled policy of demonstrative disregard for international law, and also confirms its all-round support for the Kiev neo-Nazi regime," Patrushev said in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
Earlier, on January 16, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (his term expired on May 20, 2024) and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer signed an agreement on strategic cooperation between the countries.
In addition, Starmer announced the transfer of a new air defense system to Ukraine. It was also noted that the UK intends to consider the possibility of deploying military bases in Ukraine, which is spelled out in the declaration.
On 17 January, the first deputy chairman of the Federation Council's committee on international affairs, Vladimir Dzhabarov, said that the UK had decided to get a new colony in the person of Ukraine by signing a centennial partnership agreement.
Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine against the background of the Russian Federation's special operation to protect Donbas, which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on 24 February 2022 after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
