Meeting on the vote of no confidence in Fico failed due to non-appearance of deputies

The meeting on the issue of passing a vote of no confidence in Prime Minister Robert Fico did not take place due to the fact that the deputies of the National Council (Slovak parliament) did not show up for it. This was reported by Slovak newspaper Dennik N on January 28.
"Slovak parliamentarians did not start the session where the vote of no confidence in the government of Prime Minister Robert Fitzo was supposed to take place. <...> The ruling coalition announced in advance that it would not attend the meeting," the publication said.
According to the newspaper, only 66 representatives of opposition parties gathered in the hall. At the same time, the presence of at least 76 deputies is required to hold a meeting.
Before that, on January 25, Fitzo said that a third of the participants of anti-government rallies in Slovakia are Ukrainians. According to him, someone made up a story about the country's withdrawal from the European Union (EU). Fitzo called it an absolute lie.
Earlier, January 22, it was reported that the Slovak opposition re-proposed a vote of no confidence in the government of Fico. It is noted that party representatives have collected more than 50 signatures from opposition MPs and expect a vote in the Slovak Parliament within the next seven days.
