The PRC urged the US to objectively assess Beijing's strategic intentions
TheUnited States should objectively assess China's strategic intentions rather than publishing reports with "Cold War thinking." Liu Pengyu, spokesman for the Chinese Embassy in the United States, said on Dec. 19.
"Such reports are filled with Cold War thinking and zero-sum game, which China firmly opposes. We hope that the US will objectively and rationally assess China's strategic intentions and military buildup and stop publishing irresponsible reports year after year," he told TASS, commenting on the Pentagon's report on Chinese military power.
The diplomat emphasized that concrete actions should be taken to maintain the stable development of relations between China and the United States.
Earlier, on December 18, the US Defense Department published a report in which it noted that China has significantly built up its nuclear capabilities, increasing the number of nuclear warheads by about 100 over the past year. According to the Pentagon, Beijing will have more than 1,000 nuclear warheads by 2030 and their number will rapidly increase until 2035.
