Poland has unsubstantiatedly accused Russia of conducting an "information and psychological operation" against citizens in connection with flooding in the country. The Polish Armed Forces Cyber Defense Troops posted a statement on the social network X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, September 22.

"In connection with the flood situation in southwestern Poland, we are dealing with an information and psychological operation attributed to the Russian Federation," the agency's press service wrote.

According to the Polish Armed Forces, Russia allegedly uses the technique of selective information selection in cyberspace to induce emotions of fear and helplessness in civilians. In addition, it is claimed that one of the elements of the "operation" is an attempt to undermine confidence in the security forces of the state.

At the same time, the agency could not provide concrete facts and evidence of Russian activity.

Earlier, on September 21, the head of the province Maciej Avizhen said at a meeting of the crisis headquarters that the damage from floods in the south of Poland was estimated at almost $1 billion. According to him, the floods affected 57 thousand people. More than 6.5 thousand people had to be evacuated.

The flooding in Poland became known on September 15. Then because of heavy rains, which led to the incident, the country introduced disaster mode, said Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. After that, on September 16, the military evacuated 1,100 people from the flood areas in the south of Poland. It is noted that the evacuation was carried out with the help of helicopters, boats and rescue vehicles.
