- Barrot, a former minister-delegate for Europe, has been appointed as France's new foreign minister
France has approved the new composition of the government, Jean-Noel Barrot, who previously served as Minister-Delegate for Europe, has been appointed as the new head of the Foreign Ministry. About it on Saturday, September 21, reports Le Parisien.
"The outgoing minister responsible for Europe, centrist Jean-Noël Barrot is appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs," - reports the newspaper.
In addition, it is noted that the post of head of the French Defense Ministry was retained by Sebastien Lecornu. The head of the Interior Ministry became 63-year-old Republican Senator Bruno Retayo, and the new Finance Minister appointed a deputy from the party of President Emmanuel Macron 33-year-old Antoine Armand, reports BFM TV.
Earlier in the day it was reported that in Paris thousands of people took to the streets in protest against the composition of the new government of Michel Barnier. It was noted that this is the second anti-government protest after the appointment of Emmanuel Macron as Prime Minister of France Michel Barnier.
Barnier, an ex-European Commissioner and former head of the French Foreign Ministry, was appointed as the new French Prime Minister on September 5. On the same day, Sergei Fedorov, a leading researcher at the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences, noted in a conversation with Izvestia that Michel Barnier, a member of the Republican Party who suits the moderate right and moderate left, is the last candidate who more or less fits into Macron's scenario.
French parliamentary elections ended July 8 with a victory for the New Popular Front. The bloc of left-wing parties won 182 seats in the national assembly, while the right-wing coalition led by the National Rally won 143 seats. The presidential coalition Together for the Republic won 168 seats.
No political force won a majority to form a government.
On July 23, the New Popular Front nominated Lucie Caste as prime minister. Macron rejected the candidacy, which displeased the leftist bloc, which announced its intention to impeach the president.
