Metabolic syndrome can shorten life expectancy by 10-20 years. Endocrinologist Galina Morozova told about this on November 3 in the program "About the most important thing" on the Russia 1 TV channel.

"[These conditions] will steal 10-20 years from your life," the doctor warned in an issue on the "Watch" platform.

According to the specialist, the syndrome is a set of metabolic disorders that occur with a decrease in tissue sensitivity to insulin. Morozova noted that the risk of developing diabetes and cancer is associated with this condition.

Among other possible consequences, she named cirrhosis of the liver, heart attack, stroke and acute pancreatitis. In addition, according to her, metabolic syndrome can cause erectile dysfunction.

In July, Medical Xpress noted that the brains of people with metabolic syndrome may look older than their actual age, with the gap widening with each additional metabolic disorder. The article clarified that in people with three components of metabolic syndrome, the brain looked on average one year older than the actual age.
