Russia will continue to strive for the full restoration of the authority and positions of the United Nations (UN). This was announced on October 24 by Kirill Logvinov, Director of the Department of International Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

"We will continue to strive in every possible way to fully restore the authority and positions of the United Nations so that its creative potential is fully revealed," he wrote on his Telegram channel.

Speaking on the occasion of the UN Day celebration, the diplomat recalled that during its existence, the organization has played a significant role in shaping the modern system of international relations. Her achievements include the promotion of the decolonization process, the development of international human rights standards, the promotion of disarmament and the creation of foundations for multilateral cooperation.

According to Logvinov, the association has problems, including interference in the internal affairs of states. He noted that some countries seek to use the UN not to find collective solutions, but to promote their own interests, in particular the neoliberal agenda.

Restoring trust in the United Nations, according to the director of the Department of Interstate Organizations of the Russian Foreign Ministry, requires abandoning closed agreements and moving to an open dialogue between states based on mutual respect. In this context, special expectations are associated with the upcoming election of a new Secretary General of the organization.

Loginov suggested on September 23 that the UN's credibility could be undermined by the actions of its current Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, who constantly exceeds his authority and does not neglect to depart from the basic norms and principles of the Charter.

Three days later, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov named the qualities that Moscow believes the new UN Secretary General should possess. So, he must represent the interests of all mankind, not just the "golden billion", as well as be unbiased and responsible.
