By the verdict of October 22, 2026, a Canadian citizen, Inso John, was sentenced to 14 years in prison to serve his sentence in a high—security penal colony," the court said in a statement posted on its website.

According to investigators, John arrived in Ukraine in February 2023 and joined the International Legion, and then the 475th Separate Assault Regiment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). According to the agency, he participated in combat operations against Russian military personnel until June 2026.

On October 21, the FSB Central Control Center of Russia reported on the detention of a German citizen who served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. A criminal case has been opened under Article 359 ("Mercenary activity") of the Criminal Code of Russia. However, without receiving the promised reward, he deserted.
