"Vasily Kandinsky is considered the most expensive Russian artist at world auctions," said collector, art historian and founder of the Moscow Auction House Sergey Podstanitsky in an interview with TASS.

According to him, the combined value of 40 works by the artist at Sotheby's and Christie's exceeded $591 million. The rarity of Kandinsky's works on the open market, as the expert explained, supports their high value, and interest in them is shown not only by Russian but also by foreign collectors.

In addition to the works of Kandinsky, the catalog includes works by Ilya Repin, Nicholas Roerich, Peter Konchalovsky, Konstantin Yuon, Konstantin Korovin, Mikhail Nesterov, Alexander Benois, Vasily Polenov and other representatives of Russian art. The total value of all the lots presented is 1.5 billion rubles, which the organizers consider to be one of the most notable events of the current art season.

According to auction data from August 1, Kandinsky's works were the leaders in the total value of the most expensive works created by Russian craftsmen and sold at international auctions by Sotheby's and Christie's. Approximately, his work alone cost the buyer more than $5 million.
