President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev appointed Sayat Isanov commander of the special operations forces of the Armed Forces of the Republic. The head of state signed the corresponding decree on October 10.

"By order of the head of state, Isanov Sayat Serikkazievich was appointed commander of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan," the presidential press service reported.

The appointment took place against the background of personnel changes in the country's military leadership. Previously, the post of commander of the special operations forces was held by Aidos Myrzakhmetov, who headed the Ministry of Defense of the Republic.

The personnel changes followed the incident at the exercises in the Caspian Sea on September 24, where 14 servicemen died as a result of the tragedy. The reasons for the incident in the country's defense Ministry called a sharp deterioration in meteorological conditions and increased wind. Tokayev declared September 25 a day of mourning, and on October 5, he heard the first results of a comprehensive audit of the Ministry of Defense, and five defendants were arrested.

On September 27, Aidos Myrzakhmetov was appointed the new Minister of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Prior to that, by Tokayev's decree, former Defense Minister Dauren Kosanov was relieved of his post. On October 3, Tokayev dismissed Kanysh Abubakirov from the post of First Deputy Minister of Defense and Chief of the General Staff of the republic. Deputy Defense Minister Almaz Dzhumakeev and Commander-in-Chief of the Naval Forces Kanat Niyazbekov also lost their posts.
