On October 5, US President Donald Trump announced that The New York Times (NYT) newspaper could close in the near future. According to him, this day will be a "great one" for the United States.

The reason for Trump's statement was the publication by the NYT about his Trump National Doral resort in Miami. The American president accused the newspaper of deliberately obscuring and distorting a photograph of the facade of the facility, giving the building, in his opinion, a "squalid, dirty and simply disgusting appearance."

"Sometime in the near future, The Times will be forced to close its dirty doors, and this will be a great day for America!" Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The American president also pointed to the decline in the newspaper's circulation and attributed this to a drop in confidence in the NYT. He called the publication about the resort part of a long-term criticism of himself and accused the journalists of the publication in the absence of fact-checking.

On September 18, Trump announced that he was immediately revoking access to CNN, MS NOW and the Politico newspaper due to, according to him, unfavorable coverage of his administration's activities. He warned that "other media outlets spreading fake news" may also be banned soon. In this regard, journalists from the White House press pool refused to replace the CNN team on September 21, expressing solidarity with their colleagues.

Later, on September 24, the NYT reported that the White House lifted Trump's ban on the non-admission of a number of media outlets, but on October 5, CNN reported on the non-admission of Politico journalists aboard the president's plane.
