- The dealer demanded that Toyota not interfere with the supply of cars to the Russian Federation
The structure associated with Toyota in Russia is trying through the court to achieve the lifting of restrictions on the supply of cars and spare parts for Toyota and Lexus in the Russian Federation, Kommersant reported on October 2.
According to him, the Toyota-controlled dealer holding JV Business Car appealed to the Moscow Arbitration Court demanding that a number of concern structures — Toyota Tsusho Corporation and Toyota Tsuse Rus — stop obstacles to the import of cars and components to the Russian market. The claim has already been accepted for production.
It follows from the case file that the plaintiffs also ask to recognize the debt obligation to Toyota Tsuse Rus as terminated in order to recover losses incurred due to the suspension of supplies of cars and spare parts. The total amount of the claims is 375 million rubles. According to the sources of the publication, the dispute is in the nature of an internal conflict between the Russian minority members of the dealer structure and management.
Toyota suspended production at the plant in St. Petersburg in 2022 and at the same time limited the supply of cars to the Russian market. At the same time, the company announced its intention to maintain after-sales service and dealer network support. Subsequently, the Japanese authorities expanded export restrictions to include premium cars, new and used cars with engines over 1.9 liters, electric vehicles and hybrids.
On October 1, Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, said that sales of hybrid models and electric cars in Russia had set a new record. The total sales volume of such vehicles reached 14% of the market.
