The defense council was urgently convened in Kiev after the strikes of the Russian Armed Forces on the Southern Bridge

An emergency convocation of the defense Council has been scheduled for October 2 in Kiev after the Russian Armed Forces' night strikes on the Southern Bridge. This was announced by the press secretary of the Kiev City Military Administration (KGVA) Ekaterina Pop.

According to her, the facility was seriously damaged as a result of the attack. Currently, traffic on the Southern Bridge is completely blocked in both directions.

"The bridge support, the bump, the roadway and the protective concrete surface of the subway were damaged," Pop clarified, the broadcast was conducted on the YouTube channel "We are Ukraine".

The KGVA representative added that the authorities are currently assessing the damage caused. During the meeting of the Defense Council, it is planned to discuss priority measures to restore the facility.

On the same day, the mayor of the city, Vitali Klitschko, announced that the facility had been hit again. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene.

On the eve of October 1, the Ukrainian media noted that the Southern Bridge is of strategic importance not only for the capital, but also for the whole country. According to Maxim Bakhmatov, the head of the Desnyansky district of Kiev, about 90% of the transit traffic between the left-bank and right-bank parts of Ukraine passes through the Southern Bridge.
