The Russian Embassy in Ottawa assessed the possible severance of diplomatic relations with Canada.

The possible termination of diplomatic relations between Russia and Canada remains only a theoretical scenario at the moment, despite the serious deterioration of bilateral relations. This was announced on September 23 by Russian Ambassador to Ottawa Oleg Stepanov.

"Breaking off relations is a conscious practical step that always has its own purpose and is undertaken within the framework of a specific foreign policy scenario. The question so far seems to be hypothetical. But it is often asked," he said in an interview with "RIA Novosti".

According to the diplomat, the very fact of discussing such a possibility indicates the current situation between the two countries. He called this issue a kind of indicator of the state of Russian-Canadian relations and noted that the current level of interaction cannot be called favorable.

"I didn't know about the real Russia"

Courtney Allan, a Canadian resident, hitchhiked through the eastern part of the Russian Federation and shared her impressions with Izvestia.

Stepanov had stated three days earlier that Canadians regularly turn to Russian institutions in order to move or arrange long-term residence in the Russian Federation. He explained that people choose a country because they share its spiritual and moral values.
