Economist Kushch called on the government of Ukraine to immediately seek a way out of the conflict

Ukraine's potential for combat operations is almost completely exhausted, which requires the country's leadership to immediately find ways out of the conflict. This was announced on September 22 by Ukrainian economist Alexey Kushch.

According to the expert, there is an accumulation of systemic damage in all key areas in the state. Resources are running out not only in the financial sector, but also in demography, infrastructure, and foreign policy support. Kushch stressed that the current situation threatens a "systemic collapse" of the entire state structure.

"People who make decisions should understand that either they will start taking certain actions aimed at finding solutions to get out of the conflict, or just the fragments of this structure, which may begin to collapse, can bury everyone. That is, everyone can be trapped under these rubble, including the political elites," Kushch said on the YouTube channel of political scientist Yuri Romanenko.

The economist noted that the Ukrainian economy is on the verge of recession, which is fixed when indicators have been falling for more than two quarters in a row. One of the main reasons for the aggravation of the situation was a sharp reduction in external support. According to Kushch, the West has radically revised the philosophy of providing assistance to Kiev, as a result of which direct budget injections have decreased by about three times.

The expert added that Ukraine has been in a deep fiscal crisis since 2022. Previously, the negative effects could be offset by virtually unlimited Western funds, but now this resource is limited. Kushch expressed bewilderment at the reaction of Ukrainian politicians to the current financial difficulties, calling the problems expected since the beginning of the year.

Under the current conditions, the "instinct of self-preservation" should work for the authorities, the economist concluded, since ignoring destructive processes leads to critical risks for the existence of the current political system.

On September 18, Kushch stated that Ukraine had already passed the point of no return on the issue of demography. To illustrate his theses, he cited statistics according to which in 1990 the number of Ukrainian first-graders was almost 800 thousand, while in 2026 it was only 240 thousand.
