"Formula 1" distance will be reduced by 15 km

The "Formula 1" commission at a meeting in London agreed on changes in the regulations: the race distance will be reduced by 15 km. This was announced on September 21 on the website of the International Automobile Federation (FIA).

"It was approved to reduce the total race distance from 305 km to 290 km, which is equivalent to reducing the distance by two to three laps," the publication says.

In addition, for races that were interrupted due to rain or other factors, it was decided to introduce a strict time limit on the completion of any events, but at the same time repeal the current rule limiting the total duration of the race to three hours.

The two-hour net race time limit will remain in place. An agreement was also reached on greater flexibility in extending free-ride sessions if they were interrupted.

On September 16, the FIA published the approved calendar of the "Formula 1" championship for 2027. The competition program includes 24 stages. The season starts on March 12 with the Bahrain Grand Prix and officially ends on December 12 in Abu Dhabi.
