Alikhanov predicted a reduction in the price of the Russian MC-21 aircraft

The cost of the Russian MC-21 passenger aircraft is planned to be reduced by increasing production volumes and improving the efficiency of the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) and its suppliers. This was announced on September 19 by Anton Alikhanov, head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.

"If we translate into the economic conditions of the current year, we plan to reduce the cost of the aircraft below 7.5 billion rubles," TASS quoted him as saying.

The minister explained that we are talking about reducing prices by several billion rubles due to economies of scale, which will be possible thanks to a large portfolio of orders from airlines. An additional factor should be the optimization of internal processes in the UAC and among contractors.

Alikhanov noted that a set of measures is already being implemented to reduce the cost of production, including a review of pricing policy. At the same time, he stressed that the indicated cost is calculated in 2026 prices, so it is possible that the absolute values may change in the future.

A day earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin took part in the signing ceremony of the contract for the supply of MC-21 aircraft. Then he said that the first batch would be handed over to the domestic airline "Aeroflot" next year. The Russian leader clarified that the airline plans to purchase 90 such aircraft, while 18 of them are already being manufactured.

The airline itself clarified on the same day that it plans to use the new aircraft on flights from Moscow to St. Petersburg, and is also considering their implementation for flights to Nizhny Novgorod and Kazan.
