Fico predicted an unprecedented rise in gas prices after the ban on imports from the Russian Federation

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said on September 4 that the termination of Russian gas supplies to the European Union (EU) would lead to a significant increase in the cost of this resource.

"Remember everything: there will be a huge problem with gas, we will buy it at prices we have never seen in our lives," he said during his speech at a press conference after talks with the Bulgarian Prime Minister in Sofia, which was broadcast on the TA3 YouTube channel.

According to the Slovak Prime Minister, a possible price increase will be a consequence of the EU's energy policy and, in his opinion, insufficient consideration of the real situation on the energy market.

Fico also recalled that Bratislava opposes the RepowerEU initiative, which provides for the abandonment of Russian gas in the coming year. He noted that Slovakia is already challenging this decision in court and continues to oppose the cessation of Russian gas imports.

The fact that Bratislava is not going to abandon Russian energy resources was stated on May 9 by the Deputy Speaker of the Slovak Parliament, Tibor Gaspar. Then he justified this by the unwillingness of the authorities to put the future of their country in danger. Some time later, on September 2, Vladimir Demidov, an independent expert on the oil and gas market, announced a gas shortage, which, according to him, would be observed in Europe anyway.
