Nepal estimated the cost of post-flood reconstruction at $4-5 billion
Nepal's reconstruction after the devastating floods may require from $4 billion to $5 billion. This was announced on August 29 by the country's Finance Minister Svarnim Vagle in an interview with Reuters.
"Nepal needs from $4 billion to $5 billion to recover from the devastating floods," the agency quoted the minister as saying.
At the same time, Vagle stressed that the assessment is still preliminary. The Nepalese authorities continue to calculate the damage caused by the disaster.
Flooding in Nepal occurred on August 26. As of August 29, police confirmed the deaths of 616 people. The cataclysm almost completely destroyed the popular tourist area of Rasuva. The country's tourism department has notified that 644 tourists, including eight Russian citizens, are missing. The Russian Embassy has confirmed the information about the missing.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova advised Russian citizens to refrain from traveling to flood-affected areas of Nepal. Nepalese authorities have warned of the threat of repeated flooding due to the spontaneous formation of a lake that has accumulated at the place where the river was blocked by a landslide.
