Experts of the "Call me back" project warned about new fraud schemes
Experts of the "Call me back" project warned about new investment schemes of scammers, which are aimed at young citizens, among others. Attackers involve people in pseudo-investments through online games, promises of easy earnings in cryptocurrencies and the purchase of tokens. This was reported on August 24 on the official website of Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin. mos.ru .
"Scammers masterfully disguise themselves as brokers, financial advisors, and even romantic partners on dating apps, turning the topic of investment into an ideal testing ground for deception. However, their main weapon is not complex schemes, but elementary work with human psychology. The most dangerous phrase in their arsenal sounds reassuringly simple: "Start with a small amount," explained Valentina Shilina, head of the "Call me Back" project at the Moscow Department of Information Technology.
This step, she says, is becoming a test of manageability. After the first agreement, the pressure increases, and the amount of contributions increases exponentially. Most pseudo-investment projects accept contributions in cryptocurrency, disguising themselves as blockchain startups with promises of guaranteed profits from automated trading using AI bots that do not have a working product. A "romantic investment scam" is flourishing on dating platforms: scammers use AI-generated profiles, gain trust, and offer links to fake exchanges.
Bright banners on social networks with the promise of super profits or deepfakes with famous faces lure you to clone sites. After entering the data and downloading the application from the link, the user is assigned a curator, and the revenue figures on the platform are artificially growing. When trying to withdraw money, they are required to pay non-existent fees, after which the connection is cut off.
Experts recommend checking website addresses, not downloading applications from messenger links, and being wary of demanding urgent solutions, promises of returns above 30-50% per annum, and transfers to individual cards. Legitimate companies only accept payments to their accounts. Before investing funds, you should check the broker's license in the Central Bank's registry through the Check Financial Institution service.
The recipient of an unknown transfer should contact the bank and find out the origin of the funds, the Russian Interior Ministry recommended on the same day. It is not recommended to return the money yourself in order to protect yourself from accusations of unjustified enrichment. At the same time, it is important to keep the correspondence related to the translation.
