The village of Yaylyu in Altai was closed to tourists after a bear attack
The village of Yaylyu in the Altai Republic was closed to tourists due to the release of bears in the settlement. This was announced on August 21 on the website of the Altai Nature Reserve.
"Due to the current critical situation regarding the release of bears to the village of Yailya and to the cordons of the Altai Nature Reserve," the publication says.
As reported in the Altai Nature Reserve, bears began to appear regularly on the territory of Yaylyu and on the cordons of the reserve located near Lake Teletskoye. Due to the critical situation, it was decided to temporarily restrict visits to the village.
According to Order No. 107 of August 21, persons who do not live there are prohibited from visiting Yailya. The restriction was introduced in connection with the release of bears directly into the settlement.
A bear attacked a tourist in the Altai Mountains on August 19. A predator attacked a tent with tourists, tore it up and dragged the girl into the forest, where he killed her. Later, local residents said that the bear tried to break into a pie stand.
Yaroslav Volpin, executive Director of the All-Russian Society for Nature Conservation in the Moscow Region, explained that the increase in the number of bear attacks on humans is associated with an increase in the population of these animals. The Ministry of Natural Resources of Altai has issued additional licenses for bear mining.
Later, five bears were eliminated in the Altai Republic after a predator pulled a girl out of a tent and killed her the day before. It was clarified that bears began to approach populated areas more often, so regulating their numbers is necessary to ensure the safety of residents.
