The RVIO pointed to the spiritual significance of the finding of the relics of Dmitry Donskoy

The discovery of the relics of St. Prince Dmitry Donskoy will cause spiritual uplift both among the participants of the special military operation (SVO) and those who work in the rear. This was announced on August 19 by Mikhail Myagkov, scientific director of the Russian Military Historical Society (RVIO).

"The finding of the relics of saints is a good sign, a symbol that helps our people overcome trials and our army achieve victories. And the fact that the relics of Dmitry Donskoy have been found, of course, will cause a spiritual uplift not only among believers, but among all those who heroically fight in their war zone and heroically work in the rear, bringing our victory closer," Myagkov said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

He noted the symbolism of finding the relics of the prince, whom he called a symbol of justice. According to the scientific director of the RVIO, this happened against the background of the actions of the Ukrainian authorities related to the reburial of the remains of figures of the Ukrainian nationalist movement of the past.

On August 18, the prince's remains were discovered during restoration work in the Archangel Cathedral of the Moscow Kremlin. The work was carried out in July due to sagging floor slabs and the threat of destruction of the tombstones above the burial of the Grand dukes. As part of emergency measures, the brick tombstones of the crypt near the southern wall of the cathedral were dismantled.

On August 18, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia led a prayer service at the open relics of Donskoy in the Archangel Cathedral. Metropolitan Gregory of Voskresensk and Bishop Alexy of Ramenskoye performed the service with him. On August 19, Russian Presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky called the finding of the relics of the holy Grand Duke symbolic. He added that traces of severe head trauma were found on Donskoy's remains. Historians' information also indicates that the prince was seriously wounded during the battle.
