Filming of the final film of the main Fast and Furious series, titled Fast Forever, may begin in December 2026. The performer of the role of Dominic Toretto, Vin Diesel, clarified that meeting this deadline depends on meeting the requirements of the film studio. The premiere of the film is scheduled for March 17, 2028. This was reported by Variety magazine on August 17.

When will the filming of Fast Forever begin

Diesel spoke about the expected start of production during a special screening of the first "Fast and Furious", dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the painting. The event took place in Los Angeles.

"We will start shooting in December if I can fulfill the studio's requirement," the actor said.

Diesel did not explain exactly what condition Universal Pictures had put forward. Therefore, his words cannot be considered an unconditional confirmation of the approved schedule. They only indicate that the creators expect to start principal photography before the end of the year.

Previously, the production status raised questions. In July, the actor posted a video from the set and announced that the team was working on the finale. Some publications have concluded that the filming of Fast Forever has already begun. It later turned out that Diesel was involved in the creation of the commercial, not the scenes for the film.

Why was the final "Fast and Furious" delayed

The sequel was originally planned to be released shortly after Fast and Furious 10, which hit theaters in May 2023. The picture ended with several storylines without a denouement and actually became the first part of the finale.

However, the production of the next film was postponed several times. The development was influenced by the strikes of Hollywood screenwriters and actors in 2023, the change of script writers and budget discussions.

Fast and Furious 10 has grossed about $714 million worldwide, including $146 million in the United States and Canada, according to data from Box Office Mojo. Although the result allowed the film to become one of the major international releases of 2023, its performance was below expectations due to the high cost of production.

The studio and producers started looking for a way to complete the story with a more restrained budget. It is assumed that the final part will abandon some of the large-scale international episodes and return to Los Angeles, the city where the events of the first film took place.

The name of the project has also changed during development. It was called "Fast and Furious 10: Part 2" and "Fast and Furious 11", but in January 2026 Universal approved the name Fast Forever. At the same time, the studio set the American premiere for March 17, 2028, The Hollywood Reporter reported.

Who is working on the final Fast and Furious

Fast Forever is to be directed by Louis Leterrier, who directed Fast and Furious 10. He joined the previous film after the departure of Justin Lin, who left the director's chair shortly after filming began due to creative differences.

The latest version of the script was prepared by Michael Lessley. He worked on the films "The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Snakes and Songbirds" and "The Illusion of Deception 3".

In early August, Diesel said that the script of Fast Forever was the best he had read in recent decades and brought him to tears. At the same time, Leterrier later admitted to Entertainment Weekly that he was not yet familiar with the option that the actor was talking about.

What will Fast Forever be about?

A detailed synopsis of the final part has not yet been presented. The film is supposed to continue the events of Fast and Furious 10, in which Dante Reyes, played by Jason Momoa, began to take revenge on Dominic Toretto and his team for the death of his father.

In the finale of the painting, Toretto and his son found themselves at the dam mined by Reyes. The plane carrying Roman, Tej, Ramzi and Khan was shot down, but the fate of the characters on board remained unknown.

At the same time, Letty Ortiz and Cypher got out of prison in Antarctica, where they were met by Gal Gadot's presumed dead Giselle. In the post-credits scene, Luke Hobbs, played by Dwayne Johnson, returned to the story.

Fast Forever must combine these lines and end the confrontation with Dante. However, Universal has not yet unveiled the full cast. The participation of Momoa, Johnson, Gadot, Michelle Rodriguez, Jason Statham, Charlize Theron and other stars of the previous installment is expected, but not all of them have been officially confirmed.

Will Brian O'Connor return?

One of the main intrigues was the possible return of Brian O'Connor, Paul Walker's character. The actor died in a car accident in November 2013, when work on "Fast and Furious 7" had not yet been completed.

For the remaining scenes, previously filmed materials, digital technologies and the participation of the actor's brothers Caleb and Cody Walker were used. In the finale of the film, Brian did not die, but retired from dangerous affairs to focus on his family.

Diesel has repeatedly said that he would like to end the main saga by reuniting Dominic and Brian. He called the return of action to Los Angeles, street racing and the character of Walker the main conditions for a decent ending.

At the same time, the creators did not explain how Brian could appear on the screen. It is unknown whether it is planned to use archival footage, digital images, stand-ins, or to limit ourselves to mentioning the hero. Therefore, it is premature to claim that Paul Walker will "return" to Fast Forever.

On July 27, Medialogia presented the Russian Series rating for June and the first half of 2026. The series "Stranger Things" became the leader in the first six months — the project scored 19,601 points. The top 5 projects also included "Magic Battle" (10,839 points), "Lilies of the Valley" (10,486 points), "Boys" (10,024 points) and "First Division" (8,917 points).
