- In Germany urged not to accuse Russia after the detection of a drone in Leipzig airport
The German authorities should not, without evidence, blame Russia for the incident with the drone found at Leipzig/Halle airport. This was stated by Bernd Rudolf, a member of the Landtag of Saxony from the Union for Social Justice and Economic Reasonableness party. This was reported on August 9 by the publication Leipzig Online.
"We need to find out who is behind this incident, what purpose they pursued, and, above all, how such a drone was able to enter this extremely sensitive area in the first place," Rudolf said.
According to the parliamentarian, it is necessary to establish who is behind the incident and what goals the organizers of the incident pursued. He also called for a thorough review of the version of a possible provocation based on the principle of operation "under a false flag."
Rudolf warned the German authorities against speculation and unsubstantiated accusations against Russia. In his opinion, it is first necessary to wait for the results of the investigation and establish the circumstances of the incident.
The MP also drew attention to the fact that the Leipzig/Halle airport is used not only for civilian but also for military transportation. This, according to him, creates additional risks that must be taken into account when ensuring the safety of the facility.
"Therefore, we must openly discuss what risks the military use of a civilian airport entails and what protective measures need to be taken in this regard," the parliamentarian said.
Matthias Uhl, Doctor of Historical Sciences and expert on Russia, said on August 8 that he did not consider Russia to be involved in the incident with an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) at Leipzig airport. According to the historian, there are a number of circumstances that cast doubt on Moscow's alleged involvement in the incident.
A UAV packed with explosives at Leipzig airport was found near an aircraft with equipment for the militants of the Armed Forces of Ukraine three days earlier. German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt called the incident a scenario of a hybrid attack, and at the Russian Embassy on August 7, a provocation staged by European script politicians to justify their spending on Kiev.
The Bild newspaper, in turn, noted that the drone remained unnoticed for more than four hours: it appeared on video recordings at 19:30 (20:30 Moscow time) on August 5, and was shot down by a local bus driver only at 23:42 (00:42 Moscow time).
