FIFA denied information about Infantino's privileged mistress
The International Football Federation (FIFA) on Friday, August 7, rejected information disseminated by The Telegraph newspaper that its president Gianni Infantino, while working at the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), was in a romantic relationship with an employee who allegedly received special privileges.
The British publication claimed that when Infantino was the general secretary of UEFA, one of the employees of this organization received a large payment after leaving, as well as funding for business school studies.
"Gianni Infantino categorically denies these accusations and considers them absolutely untrue. Any allegations of inappropriate behavior or violations of the statutes and regulations are defamatory," Sky Sports quoted an undisclosed FIFA representative as saying.
The interlocutor stressed that not a single UEFA or FIFA employee had ever complained about Infantino's behavior, as he did not give rise to such a thing. It was also noted that personnel decisions, including dismissals and payments upon termination of employment, were made by management in accordance with the current rules.
UEFA, in turn, confirmed the payment to the former employee of the organization, but stressed that the funds were transferred in accordance with the regulations in force at that time, and the business school tuition was also paid for under existing procedures.
Infantino was already involved in a major scandal at the end of July this year. His plan to attract private investors to FIFA by selling shares of the rights to the World Cup was criticized and resulted in a boycott of all tournaments from UEFA. On this occasion, an emergency meeting was held in Rabat on August 4, following which FIFA pledged to restore its reputation, and its president apologized for the mistakes he had made and promised not to do such a thing again.
