Former CSKA volleyball player and veteran Lyudmila Smirnova died at the age of 103.

Lyudmila Smirnova, a former CSKA volleyball player and participant in the Great Patriotic War, died at the age of 103. This was announced on August 3 by the press service of the Moscow club.

For her military exploits, Smirnova was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War II degree, medals "For the Capture of Berlin", "For the Liberation of Prague", "For the Victory over Germany". She ended the war as a branch commander of the Guards Communications company of the 1st Guards Assault Aviation Kirovograd-Berlin Corps.

Smirnova played for the CDKA —CSKA women's volleyball team from 1947 to 1965. As part of it, she became the winner and prize-winner of All-Union competitions and championships of the USSR Armed Forces, and later was recognized as an honorary member of the presidium of the CSKA Sports Veterans Council.

The club's press service also reported that the issue of burying the athlete at the Federal War Memorial "Pantheon of Defenders of the Fatherland" is under consideration.
