Russia is interested in maintaining friendly relations with Armenia, while other member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) also have their own interests and a history of interaction with Yerevan. This was announced on August 2 by Russia's permanent representative to the CSTO, Viktor Vasiliev.

"We want to preserve friendly relations between Russia and Armenia, given the intertwining of the lives and destinies of our peoples, not even for decades, but for centuries," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

He noted that the other members of the organization also have their own ties with Armenia. According to the permanent representative, the cooperation of the organization's countries with Yerevan has a long history.

On July 12, Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, called the Russian-Armenian relations special. She clarified that Moscow and Yerevan are connected not only by a common history, but also by families, business, sincere love of peoples, cultures and interpenetration.

At the same time, on June 6, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced the de facto termination of Armenia's participation in the work of the CSTO. Later, on June 10, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the organization was even considering expelling it due to outstanding contributions. After a while, Russia's permanent representative to the organization stated that Yerevan has not paid a contribution for two years, which amounts to 10% of the total security budget.
