Rospotrebnadzor urged not to drink water from Moscow springs

Drinking water from Moscow springs can lead to infectious diseases, including hepatitis A and acute intestinal infections. On July 31, the metropolitan Department of Rospotrebnadzor warned about this.

"According to the results of the annual monitoring, water from springs in the city does not differ in consistency of composition and quality and does not always meet hygienic standards for sanitary, chemical and microbiological indicators, respectively, it cannot be used by the population for drinking purposes," the message posted on the agency's website says.

They recalled that the use of the spring for drinking purposes is allowed only if there is a sanitary and epidemiological conclusion. No such conclusions were issued for the springs located in Moscow. Springs are sources of water that are not protected from surface pollution, and their quality depends on the season, the condition of the surrounding area, and precipitation.

If it is impossible to refuse to drink water from the spring, you can drink it only after boiling, the Rospotrebnadzor added. Experts advise Muscovites to use only bottled or boiled water for drinking.

Natalia Pshenichnaya, Deputy Director for Clinical and Analytical Work at the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, noted on July 3 that Russians abroad should not consume ice in cafes if it is made from water of unknown origin, as it may contain infectious agents. The specialist noted that in case of doubt, it is better to give preference to drinks without ice or ask to use water, the quality of which is certain.
