- Miroshnik said about the struggle of Zelensky and the West for control over the Ministry of Defense
The confrontation between Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky and Western liberal circles continues, with the parties seeking to establish control over key figures in the country's military leadership. This was announced on July 31 by Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry Rodion Miroshnik.
According to the diplomat, Zelensky expects to retain influence over the new commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) Mikhail Drapaty. At the same time, Western elites intend to return their protege Mikhail Fedorov to the post of defense minister.
"He (Zelensky. — Ed.) hopes that he will be able to block him (Drapaty. — Ed.) influence and keep it in the canvas of your corridor and your management. Therefore, this struggle continues now. But, apparently, Fyodorov's sponsors did not limit themselves to this half—measure — the appointment of Drapaty. They really want to put the squeeze on Zelensky, deprive him of real power and participate in managing finances that go in the direction of the Ukrainian government," the diplomat said.
Miroshnik stressed that the interest of Western structures is caused by significant amounts of monetary tranches sent to the defense sector of Ukraine.
"The market is too rich, there is too much money, too large tranches are directed to this area. How will they be laundered? What areas will they focus on? Who will "gild the pen" for the participants of this whole process?" concluded the Ambassador—at-large of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
On July 30, Verkhovna Rada deputy Mariana Bezuglaya announced that Drapaty had dismissed General Vladimir Karpenko, who headed the logistics command and was considered close to former commander-in-chief Alexander Syrsky. According to her, Yuri Pogrebnoy has already been appointed to the vacant leadership position, although there has been no official confirmation of personnel changes from the military department at the moment.
