Remote scammers have started using a new deception scheme: they send malicious software (VPO) in messengers on behalf of neighbors, allegedly offering to urgently watch the video. This was reported by TASS on July 31.

It is noted that scammers write to the victim, posing as a neighbor, and claim that a suspicious person is constantly near the apartment. To be convincing, they attach a video file and ask if she knows this person.

However, in fact, the file contains the VPO, which is installed on the device after opening. It provides attackers with remote access to the account, personal data and banking applications, the message said.

Ilya Wolfson, a State Duma deputy and member of the Duma Committee on Construction and Housing and Communal Services, reported on July 28 that fraudsters began using house chats to gain access to Russian accounts on the Gosuslugi portal. So, the attackers introduce themselves as employees of management companies and invite residents to join the general chat at home. According to the deputy, after transmitting the SMS code or clicking on the suggested link, the victim "gives away the keys to his own life."
