India has tested the Kusha surface-to-air missile system, which could replace the Russian S-400 in the future. This was reported by the Defense News newspaper on July 27.

"India has successfully tested a long-range surface-to—air interceptor missile, contributing to the development of a domestic air defense system to counter long-range air threats," the material says.

During the test, the system successfully intercepted an electronic simulator of an aerial target, which became a key stage in the development of a national air defense system. India is currently using the Israeli Barak-8 (range 70 km) and the Russian S-400 (up to 400 km).

The Kusha program provides for the creation of three variants of the complex — with a range of 150, 250 and 350-400 km. This will close the gap between the Barak-8 and the S-400. At the same time, the 400 km complex will occupy the same niche as the Russian system, which, according to the publication, India may not have enough for future conflicts.

The head of Rostec, Sergey Chemezov, announced in December last year that Russia had offered India to localize the production of Su-57 fighters.
