Iran may use military force against Ukraine in response to the attack on a merchant ship in the Caspian Sea. Ellie Geranmaye, an expert on Iran from the European Council on Foreign Relations, said this in an interview with The American Conservative on July 28.

"Kiev has simply crossed all borders, and there is no doubt that the new Iranian leadership, which is much more risk—averse, will respond directly to Ukraine," said Geranmaye.

In her opinion, the attack on the ship was authorized by Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky shortly before his visit to the White House. The expert believes that in this way the president of Ukraine was trying to win the favor of US President Donald Trump.
