Russia is one of the leaders in the development of neural networks and intends to reduce the gap with the United States in this area. This was announced on July 27 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

"We are staying here among the five countries participating in the race. And I hope that with superhuman efforts we will reduce this gap," Peskov said at the Territory of Meanings forum.

The Kremlin representative noted that several companies with fundamentally different approaches to creating models are working on domestic artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. According to Peskov, Russian developers create sovereign products and successfully compete with each other within the country.

On July 26, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law creating a legal framework for the development, implementation and application of large fundamental AI models. Developers are provided with access to government data for training these models, as well as to government support measures — financial, property, warranty and information.

On July 7, the press service of the United Russia party indicated that the draft law on AI regulation would create conditions for supporting Russian developers and strengthening the country's digital sovereignty. As Sergey Boyarsky, chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, pointed out, there is currently competition between China, the United States and the Russian Federation in the field of AI technologies.
