World Gymnastics urged not to restrict the rights of Russians in competitions
On July 27, the International Gymnastics Federation (World Gymnastics) urged not to restrict the rights of Russian athletes competing in tournaments under the auspices of the organization.
World Gymnastics has confirmed its conviction that sport and politics must remain separate, and events must serve as neutral platforms for unity and justice.
"The Executive Committee has confirmed that all Russian and Belarusian athletes should be provided with full representation at all competitions sanctioned by the International Gymnastics Federation," reads a statement on the organization's website.
At the same time, the organization clarified that exceptions can be considered on a case-by-case basis for competitions scheduled before the May decision, if the current regional bans prevent the implementation of the new system.
In case of problems, the organization intends to work directly with national federations and tournament organizers to ensure a consistent approach.
On July 10, World Gymnastics supported the recommendations of the IOC Executive Committee on lifting sanctions against Russian athletes. They stressed that sport should be a neutral platform for unity, honesty and solidarity of all athletes and sports communities.
On July 7, the IOC recommended that international sports federations lift sanctions against Russian athletes. He also temporarily reinstated the Russian Olympic Committee. According to the decision, the IOC will not hold events under its auspices in the Russian Federation anyway, but other sports federations can do this.
