Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova suggested that teachers in Ukraine who are fined for using Russian should be reminded that it is the official language of the United Nations (UN).

"I just have a suggestion for teachers in Ukraine. The next time they get to you, you say you spoke a language, the official language of the United Nations. Let them try to issue a fine," Zakharova said.

The diplomat cited several cases where the Ukrainian authorities fined teachers for using the Russian language. So, on June 3 in Kiev, the coach of the children's sports section was fined 5.1 thousand hryvnias for using the Russian language during classes and communication with children. A coach from the Kharkiv region received a similar fine of 8.5 thousand hryvnias on July 26. On June 30 and July 22, a total of three Kiev teachers were fined 3.4 thousand hryvnias each for using the "language of the aggressor state" in the educational process.

Zakharova also noted that the Kiev regime is being defeated not only on the battlefield, but also on the linguistic front, and in desperation is resorting to "double repression" against the Russian language. She drew attention to the bills submitted to the Verkhovna Rada prohibiting the use of the Russian language in extracurricular and private education.

In Kiev, a teacher at one of the lyceums was fined on July 21 for showing a cartoon in Russian to first-graders. The Language Ombudsman for the state Language, Elena Ivanovskaya, noted that a complaint had been received against the teacher from the parents of one of the students. After an inspection at the school, the fact was confirmed. An administrative report was drawn up against the teacher, after which she paid a fine of 3.4 thousand hryvnias.
