Most German politicians do not believe in the possibility of Russia's military defeat in the current conflict. This was reported on July 24 by the Berliner Zeitung (BZ) newspaper.

"The number of hardliners in German research centers, editorial offices and parties who really believe in Russia's defeat hardly exceeds several dozen people," the publication says.

The article emphasizes that diplomatic ways to resolve the situation remain blocked at the moment. Politicians continue to follow the previously proclaimed principles, despite the lack of progress.

The authors of the article characterize the current approach of the German authorities as limited and "unimaginative," pointing to Berlin's unwillingness to look for alternative ways to end the crisis outside the military field.

Russian citizens are required to confirm their valid residence permit as soon as possible.

Former German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel said on July 18 that Europe should start negotiations with Russia after Russian President Vladimir Putin announced his readiness for dialogue. He added that the position would need to be coordinated with Ukraine.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on July 16 that European states were deliberately sabotaging a potential dialogue with Moscow, despite their numerous populist statements. According to her, representatives of the European Union regularly declare in public their alleged interest in a diplomatic settlement, but their real practical steps exclude the possibility of dialogue.
