Seven EU countries complained about a drop in tourist traffic due to ideas about the Russian threat

Seven Eastern European countries have appealed to the European Commission with a complaint about a sharp decrease in the tourist flow in the border regions. Politico writes about this on July 24 with reference to a letter from European ministers.

According to a letter from the ministers of Latvia, Bulgaria, Estonia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Slovakia, the decrease is explained by travelers' concerns due to reports of security risks amid the conflict over Ukraine and references to the so-called "Russian threat."

"Geopolitical events and security concerns have had a significant impact on tourism in the eastern border regions of our countries. Tourist flows have significantly decreased in most of these regions," the authors of the letter noted.

The documents request the European Commission to provide additional support measures for the economy of the border areas, as the local tourism business is under serious pressure. At the same time, according to Politico, rising temperatures in southern Europe are forcing tourists to choose the Baltic and Northern European countries more often instead of the usual Mediterranean resorts.
