Likhachev announced the risk zone of power supply to the Zaporizhia NPP
The Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) is currently in a high-risk energy supply zone. This was announced on July 24 by Alexey Likhachev, head of the Rosatom State Corporation.
"A city without light, a city without water, the station itself is located in a rather risky energy supply zone. Electricity is supplied only through one Ferroalloy line," he told reporters.
Despite this, Likhachev stressed, the NPP remains in a safe condition: the radiation background is normal, and all systems are operating in the "green zone". He noted that this is confirmed by the specialists of the mission of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), who continue to work at the site.
The head of Rosatom also stated that the targeted attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Energodar are becoming more and more fierce. According to him, civilians were injured in the latest attacks, and Alexander Yakovlev, the chief engineer of the nuclear power plant, was killed earlier.
Likhachev added that the IAEA condemned the attacks on the station and its personnel, but did not give a targeted assessment of what happened and did not name the perpetrators. The Russian side intends to continue raising this issue on international platforms.
On June 23, the armed forces of Ukraine attacked the city market in Energodar. Maxim Pukhov, the mayor of the city, said that two women were seriously injured after the attack on the market. The IAEA announced the termination of water supply to the Zaporizhia NPP.
Russian Foreign Ministry Ambassador-at-Large Rodion Miroshnik said on July 21 that Yakovlev's murder was an attempt to paralyze the facility's management system, leading to increased risks of a man-made radiation disaster. On July 15, a Ukrainian drone purposefully hit a Toyota Camry company car in which Yakovlev and his driver Dmitry Filippov were traveling, both were killed.
