- Trump announced the peaceful nuclear program of Saudi Arabia under an agreement with the United States
Saudi Arabia will not enrich nuclear materials as part of the upcoming agreement with the United States on cooperation in the field of peaceful nuclear energy. This was announced on July 23 by the American President Donald Trump.
The agreement is being prepared by the United States Department of Energy and Saudi Arabia. According to Trump, the document will deal exclusively with the non-military use of atomic energy.
The American leader clarified that Washington would approve the agreement, but for this, Riyadh must join the Abraham Agreements, which have been concluded since 2020 to normalize Israel's relations with Arab countries.
"[The agreement] will be approved, however, only if Saudi Arabia joins the highly respected and successfully operating Abraham Agreements," he wrote on his page on the Truth Social network.
Trump added that the United States "does not object" if Saudi Arabia develops nuclear energy only for peaceful purposes.
The Wall Street Journal reported on July 21 that Trump had officially approved an agreement on Washington's support for Saudi Arabia's peaceful nuclear program. It was clarified that the new document is designed for 30 years and provides for the allocation of tens of billions of dollars. It is assumed that American companies will play a leading role in the creation of Saudi Arabia's nuclear infrastructure.
At the same time, the Reuters news agency clarified that the agreement between Washington and Riyadh has increased fears in Israel about the outbreak of an arms race in the Middle East. Former Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman said that "Saudi Arabia's civilian nuclear program will end with the creation of nuclear weapons and lead to an insane arms race throughout the Middle East."
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stressed on July 23 that Iran, Saudi Arabia and other countries should have the right to a peaceful atom. The Russian president's spokesman added that Moscow's position on the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons in the world is also "well known to everyone."
