Vadefoul urged Europe to actively promote negotiations on Ukraine

Europe has a clear task to facilitate the start of negotiations on the Ukrainian conflict. This was announced on July 18 by German Foreign Minister Johann Vadefuhl.

"Recently, the United States has been showing less active involvement in the Ukrainian issue. Therefore, we, the Europeans, have not only the opportunity, but also a clear task to participate [in this issue]," Vadefulh said in an interview with the RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland (RND) portal.

This is how the minister answered the question of whether European states still have leverage after Washington took over the initiative in the negotiation process.

Speaking about the format of future discussions, the head of the department stressed that Berlin does not adhere to certain dogmas. According to him, Germany takes into account the opinion of its partners and takes into account common European interests. Vadefoul added that the main goal in the current situation remains to find a way to an interstate dialogue.

Former German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel said on July 16 that Europe should start negotiations with Russia after Russian President Vladimir Putin announced his readiness for dialogue. He added that the position would need to be coordinated with Ukraine.

According to her, representatives of the European Union regularly declare in public their alleged interest in a diplomatic settlement, but their real practical steps exclude the possibility of dialogue.
