Malaysian Prime Minister orders expulsion of Israelis from the country
The Malaysian authorities will immediately deport Israeli citizens if they are found in the kingdom, as Kuala Lumpur does not recognize the Israeli state. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim told reporters on July 15.
Prior to that, the authorities of the state of Johor appealed to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Malaysia with a request to conduct an investigation due to social media reports that Israeli citizens who could enter the country using passports of other countries were participating in a local educational project in the Forest City area, adds "Газета.Ru ".
The head of government commented on reports about the possible entry of Israeli citizens into the country using third-country passports. According to him, relevant law enforcement agencies are already checking this information.
"We are conducting an investigation. <...> We will not allow this. If there are such persons, measures should be taken. If they are Israeli citizens, then since we do not recognize Israel, they will be deported immediately," Astro Awani TV channel quoted Ibrahim as saying.
The Prime Minister expressed confidence that further clarifications on the situation would be provided by the competent ministries later. Malaysia has historically not maintained diplomatic relations with Israel and supports the rights of the Palestinian people.
France 24 TV channel reported in May that Spain, among five countries, boycotted the Eurovision Song Contest because of Israel's participation in it.
Before that, on January 31, a protest rally was held in Riga against Latvia's participation in Eurovision because of Israel. About 20 people took part in the rally, protesting against the Israeli attacks on Palestine, which, according to them, the Latvian media are silent about.
