The State Duma called for launching alternatives to mortgages

In Russia, there is a need to introduce alternative housing solutions to mortgages. Sergei Mironov, chairman of the Fair Russia Party, made such a proposal on July 16.

"People need different answers to the housing issue, because the more tools they have, the more accessible they will be," he told TASS.

According to him, among the possible tools may be construction cash registers and preferential government housing rentals, which will be available not only to the poor, but also to other citizens who need housing. Mironov noted that in other countries such mechanisms are used along with mortgage lending and make it possible to make the purchase of housing more affordable.

He also proposed to create a system of social quotas for developers, according to which at least 5% of empty apartments would be transferred to the social housing fund.

On July 15, Mironov said that in Russia, families with children should receive government payments in the amount of 500,000 to 700,000 rubles to repay mortgage loans, depending on the order of birth of children. According to the deputy, for large families, a separate payment for the purchase or construction of housing in the amount of 1.8 million rubles should be provided.
