Yuri Smirnov was born on November 6, 1938 in the city of Chernigov. After graduating from high school, he entered the Shchukin Theater College (now the Boris Shchukin Theater Institute), where he studied at the course of teacher Anna Orochko. In 1963, Smirnov successfully completed his studies, having received a professional acting education.
