The Zavarukha acoustic counter-battery warfare system began to be used in the SVO zone

Russian fighters began to use the latest acoustic reconnaissance system called "Zavarukha" in the area of the special military operation, designed to detect firing positions of militants of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was announced to TASS on July 10 by an official representative of the scientific and production association (NPO) Alfa.

Zavarukha is the most compact sound reconnaissance system for detecting enemy firing positions. The size of the microphone array does not exceed 1 m. <...> At a range of 12 km, the error is not more than 150 m. The maximum confirmed detection and direction finding range is 27 km," he said.

It is noted that the domestic development has already been tested in the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR), and has also been used in the Belgorod, Bryansk and Zaporizhia regions. In the designated area, it demonstrated high accuracy of operation — its error does not exceed 400 m at a range of more than 20 km.

An Alpha representative stated that the complex is capable of operating independently from a battery for five days. Due to its characteristics, the system becomes almost invisible. This allows Zavarukha to quickly identify the targets required by the soldiers of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. So, she has already found a number of positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, where their manpower and equipment were located, including Polish Krab self-propelled artillery units and French Caesar.

The developers compared the novelty with the Penicillin and AZK-7M complexes, which are based on KamAZ or Ural cargo chassis. The organization stressed that the use of large-sized equipment near the line of contact is difficult, as it quickly becomes a target for the enemy. In addition, the old complexes require maintenance by a staff of 20 people and work no more than 24 hours.

Zavarukha is also 60 times cheaper than these complexes. Plus, it has higher performance indicators — for example, our system hears mortars more efficiently and more accurately," the NGO Alfa said.

The device uses wide range microphones. The company's specialists managed to reduce the size of the microphone array to 1 m, although theoretical data suggest a base size of about 100-300 m. NPO Alfa noted that such dimensions allow physics to be considered "a little defeated."

On July 4, the chief technical specialist of the Alfa Experimental Design Bureau said that Russian military personnel also began using an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) model "Product-98". The development is mainly used in the Zaporozhye area. It is designed to participate in operations at a distance of 15 km, to which it is capable of delivering charges up to 2.5 kg.
