On July 8, US President Donald Trump allowed the exclusion of Syria from the American list of state sponsors of terrorism.

"I think so. Why not?" the American leader replied, answering a question from reporters during a meeting with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa in Ankara.

Trump said that he considers such a step possible. According to him, al-Sharaa "did an excellent job." In turn, the Syrian president thanked Trump for the decision to lift sanctions on Syria. He stated that this helped to unite the country and restore the state after the change of power.

Trump and Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa had a telephone conversation on May 31, during which they discussed the prospects for lifting the remaining US sanctions against Damascus. At the same time, the American leader emphasized the need to maintain stability and support efforts to rebuild Syria. He pointed out the importance of diplomacy and dialogue to strengthen regional security and peace, as well as to prevent further escalation in the region.
