Trump announced no plans to send ground troops to Iran
US President Donald Trump said on July 8 that he currently sees no reason to send ground forces to Iran. He said this during a meeting with Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara.
"No, there's no point in me doing that. <...>Why would I send [ground troops] there when they (Iran. — Ed.) completely eliminated or something like that," said the American leader.
At the same time, Trump admitted that the United States could take control of the Iranian island of Kharq, where the key oil terminal of the Islamic Republic is located.
At the same time, Trump said that the American military could launch new attacks on Iran next night. He said that the Islamic Republic had allegedly been the most important "bully" for the past 47 years, but now this is not the case.
